This house won the “Qualified Remodellor Magazine”, Master Design Awards, “Whole House Remodel, $500,000 and Above” award in 2002 (see August 2002 issue).

Town zoning regulations did not allow for demolition of this 1940s’ Cape so the more expensive remodel with limited addition approach was the only option available to this project. The “opening up” of a traditional style home brings many benefits but the replacement of walls with support beams has its challenges, especially in regard to the provision of mechanical services of which, this house, is resplendent.

The comfort and amenity for the occupant and frequent “hordes” of overnight guests was paramount. A startling conversion of a garage to a dedicated Theater Room is partial testament to this approach. Large group spaces with dramatic ocean views are balanced with more intimate and private ones. The main living space and Kitchen flow to a deck, patio, lawn and then beach beyond. More accommodation is available above the two car garage which is a self contained area used for guest overflow and serious Office/Business management.

Life goes on inside with full view of the activities of the Atlantic Ocean and a busy harbor entrance as a backdrop.
