House on Water

Overlooking a small cove with the Atlantic beyond, this 800 sf, free-standing structure, is designed to fulfill the functional and aesthetic needs of a well renowned artist.

This design was built around a central, octagonal cupola, to provide daylong, indirect light to the painting studio. Roof overhangs protect from undesirable summer glare but allow the sun’s rays to penetrate the winter gloom. The Studio itself, with cupola above, is divided into Office and Painting Area with a separate storage area and bathroom at rear.

The french doors open onto a small deck and garden extending to a dock. Steel tie rods hold the open roof together, but are incorporated into the overall aesthetic with the linking rings also concealing lighting.
